HBO has picked up its comedy pilot Togetherness to series with an 8 episode order, TVWise has confirmed.
Togetherness, which hails from brothers Jay Duplass and Mark Duplass, follows two couples living under the same roof who struggle to keep their relationships alive while pursuing their individual dreams. The comedy series stars Mark Duplass, Amanda Peet, Melanie Lynskey and Steve Zissis. The executive producers are Jay and Mark Duplass. Togetherness is being eyed for a 2014 premiere.
The news of the pick up, which was first reported by Deadline, comes as the premium cable network is making an aggressive push into comedy with the recent pick ups of such shows as Hello Ladies and an as-yet untitled comedy about gay life in San Francisco. Still to be determined is the fate of the HBO/BBC co-production Family Tree. It’s hard to get a clear read on the situation until the numbers for the show’s UK premiere come in (which will be in about two hours), but last I heard HBO were not leaning towards renewal.
