CBS has renewed their drama series Under The Dome for a second season of 13 episodes, slated to air Summer 2014. The network has also announced that the second season premiere will be written by award winning author Stephen King, upon whose book the series is based.
Based on the Stephen King novel of the same name, Under The Dome tells the story of a small town that is suddenly and inexplicably sealed off from the rest of the world by a massive transparent dome. The drama series, which has an order for 13 episodes, is produced by CBS Television Studios in association with Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Television and stars Mike Vogel, Rachelle Lefevre, Dean Norris, Natalie Martinez, Britt Robertson, Alexander Koch, Colin Ford, Nicholas Strong, Jolene Purdy and Aisha Hinds.
“We’re excited to tell more stories about the mystery of the dome and the secrets in Chester’s Mill, and are thrilled to have the master storyteller himself, Stephen King, tell the first one of next season,” said CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler.
The renewal comes as Under The Dome is currently ranking as the number 1 summer series in viewers and key demographics. Season-to-date, the series has been averaging 13.84 million viewers, 3.5 rating in adults 18-49 and 4.8 rating in adults 25-54. Under The Dome has also been a big player in DVR and on-demand viewing, with the series premiere reaching a total of 19.85 million viewers (up from 13.53 million viewers in live+same day) when data from both has been factored in.
