Mark Addy (Game of Thrones), Juliet Stevenson (White Heat), Sarah Parish (Mistresses), Jemima Rooper (Lost In Austen), Aiysha Hart (Honour), Jack Donnelly (Dancing On The Edge) and (as TVWise previously reported) Robert Emms (War Horse) have joined the cast of BBC One’s upcoming fantasy series Atlantis.
Created by Howard Overman (Misfits), Atlantis is set in the city of Atlantis: a mysterious ancient place; a world of bull leaping, of snake haired goddesses and of palaces so vast it was said they were built by giants. It’s into this strange, compelling realm that the young Jason arrives and an amazing adventure begins, bringing to life the vast store of Greek myths and legends. The series has been given a 13 episode order, and is set to begin production in Wales and Morocco in April. Howard Overman productions and BBC Cymru Wales are producing, with Howard Overman, Johnny Capps, Julian Murphy and Bethan Jones serving as executive producers. Justin Molotnikov (Merlin) is attached to direct.
Speaking of the cast, Ben Stephenson, Controller of BBC Drama Commissioning, said: “The fantastic cast announced for Atlantis is testament to the ambition and scale of Howard Overman’s scripts. Some of the UK’s best loved actors are joining our newest talent to take the BBC One audience to a rich and wonderful world where any adventure is possible.”
