FOX UK has handed out its first ever UK commissions, as part of a larger plan to expand its slate of programming with a mix of commissions and acquisitions – in keeping with its pledge to bring smart entertainment with an edge to a wider audience. For its first two UK commissions, FOX has ordered an observational documentary series titled Russians In The City produced by Ricochet (a Shed Media company) and Man Up, a factual entertainment format produced by Betty. Both series were ordered by Nicole Streak, Commissioning Editor of Factual Entertainment for Fox International Channels Europe.
“It is an extremely exciting time for FOX as we look to broaden our audiences and venture into new programming genres”, said Jason Thorp, Executive Vice-President of Content for Europe & Managing Director of Fox International Channels UK. “Having the ability to leverage our scale across Europe enables us to bring what the very best of the UK independent production community has to offer to a wider audience that all FOX channels can benefit from.”
Man Up is a ten episode factual entertainment format series which explores the male psyche taking mummys’ boys and geeks and transforming them into brilliant, capable men. Betty is producing, with Dave Emerson and Ian Carre serving as executive producers.
Russians in the City is an 8 episode observational documentary produced by Ricochet about Russians living in London. From the mega rich to the beautiful fashionistas, the high-end party planners and the upmarket Nanny agencies, the series will gain an understanding of the Russian ‘scene’ in London. Rather than the traditional pitching process, Ricochet’s Managing Director Jo Ball was approached by FOX to make the series. The executive producer is Laurence Turnbull, Emma Walsh is directing.
