BBC America has signed on to co-produce BBC Four’s 90 minute one-off drama Burton and Taylor. The drama will air as part of the network’s dramaville block later this year. Other UK productions set to air as part of BBC America’s Dramaville block later this year include Spies of Warsaw, Broadchurch and the third season of Luther.
A 90 minute one-off drama, Burton and Taylor is a biopic about Richard Burton and Liz Taylor which documents their ill-fated appearance in a 1983 revival of Noel Coward’s stage play, Private Lives. The drama was written by William Ivory. BBC Drama Productions are producing the one-off, which stars Dominic West as Burton and Helena Bonham Carter as Taylor. The executive producers is Jessica Pope, Richard Laxton is directing.
“We are thrilled to bring Burton and Taylor to BBC America’s Dramaville“, said Perry Simon, General Manager of BBC America. “With the incredibly talented and award-winning Helena Bonham Carter and Dominic West in the title roles and a compelling script from William Ivory, Burton and Taylor captures the final and complicated reunion on stage of two British and Hollywood icons. We’re excited to tell this story in the tradition of the great BBC dramas our audience has come to expect.”
