Barry Humphries, Sally Phillips (Miranda), Sarah Daykin (Dead Boss), Emerald Fennell (Anna Karenina), Louise Ford (Misfits), Amy Dawson (Game of Thrones), Vicki Pepperdine (Getting On), Eileen Davies, (Sightseers) and Emma Fryer (Phone Shop) have all joined the cast of Sky1’s upcoming comedy series Chickens. Production on the series is currently underway in Essex, with Sky1 eyeing an Autumn premiere.
Humpries has been cast in a recurring role as Mr Armstrong, the headmaster at the local school; Phillips as Miss Trimble, the village outcast who George invites for dinner much to the disgust of Cecil and Bert; Daykin as Winky, George’s fiancee; Fennell as Agnes, Cecil’s sister; Ford as Gracie, Agnes’ best friend; Dawson as Dot, the barmaid at The Cock and Bull; Pepperdine as Hesta, the matriarch of the village; Davies as Gladys, a foul-mouthed OAP who lives in the woods; and Fryer as young mother Nellie.
Created by and starring Simon Bird, Jonny Sweet and Joe Thomas, Chickens revolves around 3 men in a world of women after they get out of serving in the army during World War I. The six episode series is being produced by Big Talk Productions, with Lucy Lumsden, Kenton Allen and Caroline Leddy serving as executive producers. The director is Ben Palmer (The Inbetweeners) and the producer is John Rushton (The Royle Family).
