EXCLUSIVE: Sky Living and ITV Studios have tapped Chris Cottam to direct Miss Wright, one of the one-offs that form part of Sky Living’s recently announced Love Matters strand. Word is that BSkyB is treating said strand as a piloting method, with a view to commission a full series of any of the one-offs if  they “pop with viewers.” Cottam, repped by Casarotto Ramsay & Associates, has just come off of directing Officially Special for Channel X, which is another entry in Sky Living’s Love Matters strand. Created by Isy Suttie (Peep Show) and Fergus March, Miss Wright is produced by ITV Studios and has been described as a will-they-won’t-they comedy peppered with original musical numbers performed by Isy Suttie.

Sky Arts has also locked down the cast for its upcoming one-off Mr Understood, part of the channel’s popular Playhouse Presents strand. Created by Grayson Perry and Kate Hardie, Mr Understood is produced by Eleven Films and is a deeply personal, and comic, drama that follows young transvestite Andrew as he battles with self-doubt. My sources tell me the production on Mr Understood, which is due to air on Sky Arts on April 11th, started in early January and that the core cast includes Claire Skinner (Outnumbered), Neil Dudgeon (Midsomer Murders), Tom Brooke (Mrs Biggs) and Tommy McDonnell (Law & Order: UK). Co-creator Kate Hardie is directing.
