UKTV's Watch Channel Acquires UK Rights To Syfy's 'Being Human' – TVWise

UKTV has closed a deal with Zodiak Rights to acquire the exclusive first run UK broadcast rights to Syfy’s drama series Being Human for its Watch Channel. The show’s 13 episode first season is set to premiere on the channel later this year.
Based on the successful BBC Three series of the same name, Being Human revolves around a trio consisting of a Vampire, a ghost and a werewolf all trying to live normal lives, in effect being human. The drama series, which is currently airing its third season on Syfy in the US, is produced by Muse Entertainment in association with Zodiak USA & stars Sam Witwer, Meaghan Rath and Sam Huntington.
Speaking of the acquisition of the US adaptation of Being Human, Steve Hornsey, General Manager for Watch, commented: “The US version of Being Human provides compelling viewing by offering a dark take on an ordinary flat share situation. It is a perfect fit for Watch which puts a new twist on established genres and I am delighted it will premiere on the channel, giving our viewers access to more premium content ahead of other UK broadcasters.”
The deal between UKTV and Zodiak was brokered by UKTV Acquisition Executives Emma Sparks and Nicki McDermott, alongside Zodiak Rights’ Head of Sales Anne-Marie Pardoe and was part of a larger programming slate of shows UKTV has acquired for its network of Channels. Other series covered by this deal includes Relocation Relocation Australia for Home, Emergency Bikers for Watch and the fourth season of Bizarre ER for Really.
Speaking of the larger deal with Zodiak, Catherine Mackin, UKTV’s Director of Acquisitions, said: “We are delighted to be continuing our long running relationship with Zodiak Rights by acquiring this content. Zodiak is a media powerhouse with access to a raft of popular content which is a perfect fit for UKTV’s 10 channel brands, and complements our original commissions and existing third party content.”
