USA Network has handed a ten-episode third season renewal to sophomore series Neccessary Roughness. The drama series, which is set to return to finish airing its sixteen episode second season on January 23rd, had been the only question mark for USA Network since the network cancelled Fairly Legal & Common Law and opted not to pursue a second season of its limited-series Political Animals.
Created by Liz Kruger and Craig Shapiro, Necessary Roughness follows Long Island therapist Dr. Dani Santino, whose personal life unravelled when she found her husband cheating. Diving fully into her work, she takes on the challenge of rehabilitating a bad boy professional New York Hawks football player whose off-the-field antics threaten his career and the team franchise. The drama series is a Sony Pictures Television and Universal Cable Productions co-production and stars Callie Thorne, Mehcad Brooks, Marc Blucas and Scott Cohen.
Speaking of the renewal, Chris McCumber and Jeff Wachtel, Co-Presidents of USA Network, said: “Necessary Roughness is an important page in our network playbook. With a standout team of actors and writers playing at the top of their game, the upcoming seasons promise to deliver high-impact and creative storytelling.”
