BBC America has signed up to co-produce Sky Atlantic’s recently announced mini-series based on the life of James Bond creator Ian Fleming, TVWise has learned. I hear that the 4 part mini will air as part of the network’s “Dramaville” lineup in late 2013.
Written by John Brownlow, the four part mini-series (currently operating under the working title Fleming) will star British Actor Dominic Cooper as Fleming and will take a no holds barred look at the man behind the James Bond legend, whose real life was as exciting, eventful and sexually charged as his famous creation. The outbreak of the second world war saw a young Fleming as an unsuccessful stockbroker already with a failed army career behind him, living off his rich family whilst indulging his passions of alcohol, erotic literature and sexual conquests. But having been forced into Naval Intelligence through family connections, Fleming found a calling. Utilising his vivid imagination, charm and mischievous sense of humour he was responsible for some of the most outrageous counter intelligence missions against the Nazis, full of danger and intrigue, the experience of which would form the basis of the Bond books. Ecosse Films are producing, Mat Whitecross is attached to direct. The executive producers are Huw Kennair-Jones, Douglas Rae, Michael Parke and Robert Bernstein.
