As part of ITV’s push to get back into the comedy business, ITV1 has ordered a new comedy series titled Vicious. The series has been given a six episode order and is said to be about friends that bicker, argue and who are delightfully vicious to each other. This is the second comedy to have been given a series order at ITV1 in recent months, after the broadcaster had largely stayed away from the genre in recent years, and will be joined on the channel in 2013 by Jobcentre based sitcom The Job Lot.
Vicious is being penned by Will & Grace scribe Gary Janetti and followsageing partners Freddie (Ian McKellen) and Stuart (Derek Jacobi). These two men have lived together in a small Covent Garden flat for nearly 50 years. Freddie was a budding actor and Stuart a barman when they first met but their careers are now pretty much over and their lives now consist of reading books, walking their dog and bickering. Joining Freddie and Stuart is feisty best friend Violet (Frances De La Tour). She’s young at heart with a delicious sense of humour and always on hand to calm Freddie and Stuart down during one of their many arguments. However, their world is about to be turned upside down by the arrival of a young man, Ash, as their new upstairs neighbour. The comedy series is being produced by Brown Eyed Boy in association with Kudos Film & TV, with Jemma Rodgers serving as executive producer and Ed Bye on board as series director.
Speaking of Vicious writer and Co-Producer Gary Janetti said: “I’m incredibly excited to be working with ITV and this unbelievable cast!”
While Gary Reich, Managing Director at Brown Eyed Boy, added: “Brown Eyed Boy is privileged to bring such a fantastic project to life with such extraordinary talent, both on and off screen”
