EXCLUSIVE: Scottish actor Scott Hoatson (Case Histories) has been cast in BBC Three’s upcoming military comedy series Bluestone 42, TVWise has learned exclusively. Hoatson has been cast as Gav, a member of Bluestone 42, a British army bomb disposal detachment serving in Afghanistan.
Bluestone 42 (pronounced bluestone four-two) is a single-camera comedy created by James Cary and Richard Hurst. The eight episode series follows a British bomb disposal detachment serving in Afghanistan. The series features a group of soldiers who really enjoy being soldiers and takes the audience from moments of intense action to the fractious camaraderie as the unit waits around for their next tasking. BBC In-House Comedy Productions is producing, with Michelle Farr serving as producer and Iain B. MacDonald on board as series director. Production on the series is due to commence later this year in South Africa, with BBC Three eyeing a Spring 2013 premiere.
The comedy series, which has been in development for the better part of two years, was only recently picked up to series by BBC Three. Bluestone 42 was initally developed under the title IED and bypassed the traditional pilot-to-series model, with BBC executives opting to place an order for seven additional scripts in 2011 in lieu of filming a pilot. The project was then picked up to series earlier this month, based solely on the strength of said scripts.
