Exclusive: I have just learned that Channel 5 has closed a deal with Disney Media Distribution to acquire the exclusive first run UK broadcast rights to the second season of ABC’s drama series Once Upon A Time. I’m also being told that the show’s second season is tentatively scheduled to premiere on Channel 5 in early 2013.
Created by Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, Once Upon A Time revolves around Emma Swan, a bail bonds person who has been fending for herself since she was abandoned as a baby. Everything changes for Emma when Henry, the son she gave up a decade ago, finds her. Now 10 years old, Henry needs his mothers help, he believes that she comes from an alternate world and is in fact the daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming. According to his book of fairy tales, they sent her away to protect her from the Evil Queen’s curse, which trapped the characters of the fairytale world forever, frozen in time, and brought them into our modern world. The epic battle for the future of all worlds is about to begin. For good to win, Emma will have to accept her destiny and fight like hell. The drama series stars Ginnifer Goodwin, Jennifer Morrison, Lana Parrilla, Josh Dallas, Eion Bailey, Jared Gilmore, Raphael Sbarge, Jamie Dornan and Robert Carlyle.
This is the latest of a number of deals that Channel 5 has signed in recent months to secure the UK rights to the new seasons of their top performing US imports and comes shortly after the broadcaster signed a deal with Warner Bros. to acquire the rights to the fifth season of the CBS crime procedural series The Mentalist. Channel 5 has also closed deals to acquire the UK broadcast rights to the fifth season of Sons of Anarchy and the second season of Alphas. I’m also being told that Channel 5 is in talks to acquire the rights to the thirteenth season of CSI and the ninth season of CSI: NY, and expects to do so in the coming weeks.
TVWise will bring you the UK Premiere Date for the second season of Once Upon A Time just as soon as it is announced by Channel 5.
