Exclusive: UKTV has closed a deal with Disney Media Distribution to pick up the exclusive first run UK pay TV rights to Lifetime’s short-lived drama series The Protector for its Alibi channel. My sources are also telling me that the series is set to premiere on Alibi in late October.

Created by Michael Nankin and Jeffrey Bell, The Protector follows the life of Gloria Sheppard, a single mother and LAPD homicide detective who has to raise her two sons while simultaneously serving the city of Los Angeles. The drama series was produced by ABC Studios and starred Ally Walker as Detective Gloria Sheppard, Tisha Campbell-Martin as Detective Michelle Dulcett, Miguel Ferrer as Lieutenant Felix Valdez, Chris Payne Gilbert as Davey Sheppard, Terrell Tilford as Detective Rush, Thomas Robinson as Leo Sheppard and Sage Ryan as Nick Sheppard. The Protector, which originally began its life as a CBS pilot starring Geena Davis in 2008, lasted only one season (13 episodes) and was cancelled by Lifetime last summer due to poor ratings.

TVWise’s Acquisitions Scorecard has been updated with this new information.
