WGBH Boston (on behalf of Masterpiece) has signed a new co-production deal with ITV Studios. The new deal will see Masterpiece co-produce and air the four episode first season of Endeavour, the first season of upcoming period drama series Mr Selfridge and future seasons of Lewis, Agatha Christie’s Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple.
Morse prequel series Endeavour was picked up to series by UK broadcaster ITV earlier this year following a succesful two hour TV movie which served as a backdoor pilot. The weekly series will follow a young detective Endeavour Morse and his partner Detective Inspector Fred Thursday as the investigate various crimes in the 1960’s. The series is produced by Mammoth Screen & Masterpiece and stars Shaun Evans as Morse, Roger Allam as Detective Inspector Fred Thursday, James Bradshaw as Dr Max Debryn and Abigail Thaw as Dorothea Frazil. Rebecca Eaton, Michele Buck and Damien Timmer are serving as executive producers. Colin Dextor, whose first Morse story was published in 1975, will act as consultant for the series.
Mr Selfridge is set in London in 1909, at a time when women were revelling in a new sense of freedom and modernity. Harry wanted to indulge, empower and celebrate these women and so opened the doors of his lavish department store, on London’s famous Oxford Street. The drama series stars Jeremy Piven (Entourage), Katherine Kelly (Coronation Street), Frances O’Connor (Piccadily Jim), Gregory Fitoussi (Spiral), Aisling Loftus (The Borrowers), Trystan Gravelle (Anonymous) and Zoe Tapper (Desperate Romantics). Ten episodes have been ordered for the show’s first season, which is being produced by ITV Studios and Masterpiece. Rebecca Eaton, Chrissy Skins and Kate Lewis are serving as executive producers. The series is slated for a 2013 premiere on PBS’ Masterpiece.
