MTV Renews 'Awkward' For 20 Episode Third Season – TVWise

MTV has renewed its comedy series Awkward for a third season of 20 episodes, nearly double the episode order for the show’s first and second seasons.
Created by Lauren Iungerich, Awkward follows fifteen-year-old Jenna Hamilton, whose life changes when a simple accident becomes a misunderstanding of epic proportions that leads everyone to believe she tried to commit suicide. The comedy series stars Ashley Rickards as Jenna, Beau Mirchoff as Matty, Molly Tarlov as Sadie, Jillian Rose Reed as Tamara, Brett Davern as Jake, Nikki DeLoach as Lacey, Desi Lydic as Valerie, Jessica Lu as Ming, Mike Faiola as Kevin and Greer Grammer as Lissa.
Awkward currently ranks as a one of top cable series on Thursday nights, drawing in 1.8 million total viewers each week, posting gains of six percent compared to season one. The series, in both season one and two, was the #1 show across all TV in its time period among W12-34 and Teens. The supersized season order follows a similar move MTV to with another hit series: Teen Wolf, which was given a 24 episode third season.
Speaking of the third season renewal, David Janollari, Head of MTV Programming, said: “Lauren Iungerich’s creative vision, coupled with this extraordinarily talented cast, make Awkward the perfect series for MTV. Critics and our audience alike have fallen in love with Awkward, and we’re thrilled to bring this terrific series back for a third, supersized season.”
