Streaming service Hulu has nabbed exclusive US rights to Prisoners of War (AKA Hatufim), the original Israeli series upon which Showtime’s hit drama series Homeland was based. The ten episode series is set to premiere on the streaming service on Saturday July 14th.
The series was created by Gideon Raff and tells the story of two Israeli soldiers, Nimrod and Uri, who are released from Lebanon after being held as prisoners of war for 17 years. Upon returning home both men find much has changed in the 17 years they have been away; Uri’s girlfriend Nurit has married his brother and Nimrod’s two children have grown up. Both men must re-connect with their families while they battle with post-traumatic stress disorder, non-relenting flashbacks and a wary Israeli official who suspects they may be acting as spies for their former captors.
