Exclusive: I have just learned that Channel 5 has closed a deal with NBCUniversal International Television Distribution to acquire the free-to-air rights to the ninth season of Law & Order: Criminal Intent. I am also told that Channel 5 plans to begin airing the show’s ninth season this winter.
Law & Order: Criminal Intent was created by Dick Wolf & developed by Rene Balcer and follows the detectives of the NYPD’s Major Case Squad. The drama series stars Vincent D’Onofrio as Detective Robert Goren, Kathryn Erbe as Detective Alexandra Eames, Jeff Goldblum as Detective Zack Nichols, Saffron Burrows as Detective Serena Stevens, Eric Bogosian as Captain Daniel Ross and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio as Captain Zoe Callas.
In the show’s ninth season, an investigation into a Somali terrorist cell leads to the murder of the Major Case Squad’s commanding officer, Captain Ross. The ensuing investigation and fall out leads to the ouster of Detectives Goren and Eames. Captain Zoe Callas, formerly assigned to Internal Affairs, is brought in as the new commanding officer of the Major Case Squad, and Detective Serena Stevens is brought in as a replacement for Detective Wheeler, who chose not to return as Detective Nichols’ partner.
The ninth season of the series has previously been broadcast in the UK by Universal Channel, who recently finished airing the tenth and final season of the series.
