The fate of Rules of Engagement had been in doubt as series producer Sony Pictures Television and CBS have been engaged in tough negotiations about the future of the series, which couldn’t be resolved by the time of CBS’ upfront presentation last week. Even so, the comedy series has been a strong performer for CBS with the show’s sixth season averaging 10.6 million total viewers and a 3.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic in live +same day. The renewal will also bring the series to the 100 episodes Sony was looking for in order to secure lucrative off-network syndication deals.
Rules of Engagement joins the network’s previously renewed series from the 2011 – 2012 season, which includes 2 Broke Girls, Mike & Molly, Blue Bloods, NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, Hawaii Five-0, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Criminal Minds, Person of Interest, The Mentalist, The Good Wife and Two And A Half Men.
