Ellen Burstyn has been cast in USA Network’s upcoming political drama series Political Animals.
Burstyn has been cast as Margaret Barrish, mother to current Secretary of State Elaine Barrish Hammond. A tough Chicago broad and one-time Vegas showgirl, Margaret’s biting tongue and sharp wit haven’t softened despite her daughter’s position and she’s the first one to whip open a bottle of booze to help her through a political evening
Created by Greg Berlanti and Laurence Mark, Political Animals revolves around Elaine Barrish, a divorced former First Lady and current Secretary of State, who struggles to keep her family together while simultaneously dealing with the crises of the State Department. She finds an unlikely ally in Susan Berg, a famous D.C. journalist who has spent her career tearing Elaine down.
Also starring in the six part series is Sigourney Weaver as Elaine Barrish, Carla Gugino as Susan Berg, Sebastian Sian as as Thomas “T.J.” Hammond, James Wolk as Douglas Hammond, Brittany Ishibashi as Anne Ogami and Ciaran Hinds as Bud Hammond.
