NBC Renews Smash For Second Season – TVWise

NBC has renewed its musical drama series Smash for a second season. I’m being told that the network has ordered 15 episodes for the show’s second season.
The drama series, from writer Theresa Rebeck, stars Debra Messing, Jack Davenport, Katharine McPhee, Christian Borle, Megan Hilty, Raza Jaffrey, Brian d’Arcy James, Jaime Cepero and Anjelica Huston and follows what is involved in putting on a Broadway show based on the life of Marilyn Monroe.
A second season renewal for Smash comes as no surprise: since premiering behind NBC’s The Voice, the series has quickly become the peacock network’s highest rated drama series, averaging 7.7 million viewers and a 2.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic in live+same day. The series has also posted gains of 100% and 160% in total viewers and Adults 18-49 compared to the previous average for its 10pm time-slot.
