Sony Entertainment Television will begin airing Tess of the D’Urbervilles on Sunday February 12th at 4:50pm with two back to back episodes. The programme will then conclude the following week with the remaining two episodes. Sony’s screening of the programme, which stars Eddie Redmayne, is to celebrate the actors nomination for the Orange Rising Star Award, which will be awarded at the BAFTA’s on the same evening.
Tess of the D’Urbervilles is a four hour TV adaptation of the Thomas Hardy novel which was first aired by the BBC in 2008. The four part TV series stars Gemma Arterton, Hans Matheson and, of course, Eddie Redmayne and follows the beautiful and innocent Tess Durbeyfield who is driven by family poverty to claim kinship with the wealthy D’Urbervilles and seek a portion of their family fortune. However, meeting the manipulative Alec D’Urbervilles proves to be her downfall.
