Noted author and co-creator of the It Gets Better project, Dan Savage, will host a one hour “It Gets Better” special which will air concurrently on MTV and Logo on February 21st at 11/10c. The “It Gets Better” project was co-created by Savage and his partner Terry Miller to spread a message of hope and acceptance to the LGBT community in the wake of a string of teen suicides that occured in September, 2010. From that point the project blossomed and It Gets Better videos have been uploaded to Youtube from a wide variety of celebrities ranging from Savage himself to Stephen Colbert, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and even President Obama. The project also led to punk band Rise Against creating a song addressing the issue which was included on their 2011 album “Endgame”.
The hour long special will focus on the stories of three young people at a crossroads in their lives: a young man struggling to tell his family and friends that he is gay; a lesbian fighting for parental acceptance; and a transgender man preparing to get married. Videos of hope and support from Savage and his partner Terry Miller, along with Adam Levine, Zachary Quinto, Margaret Cho, Chaz Bono, Tim Mcllarth and Brandon Barnes of Rise Against, Vinny Guadagnino, Dave Holmes, Sia and Jake Shears, will also be included in the special.
