SYFY UK has secured the exclusive UK rights to The Outpost, a new ten episode fantasy adventure series from Jonathan Glassner – who developed Stargate SG-1 for television – and Dean Devlin’s Electric Entertainment. The show’s first season is expected to premiere on the genre channel later this year.
The acquisition stems from a larger deal between SYFY UK’s parent company NBCUniversal International Networks and Electric Entertainment which will see The Outpost air on NBCU’s SYFY branded channels outside of the United States. It is the second such deal between the companies after they inked a similar agreement for The Librarians.
“We feel very fortunate to have great partners like NBCUniversal International and continue our long-standing relationship as we embark on our next series together”, said Sonia Mehandjiyska, Head of International Distribution for Electric Entertainment.
The Outpost follows Talon, a strong female hero and the lone survivor of a race called “Blackbloods.” Years after her entire village is destroyed by a gang of brutal mercenaries, Talon travels to a lawless fortress on the edge of the civilised world, as she tracks the killers of her family. On her journey to this outpost, Talon discovers she possesses a mysterious supernatural power that she must learn to control in order to save herself, and defend the world against a fanatical religious dictator.
Jessica Green (Ash Vs Evil Dead) is attached to star as Talon. Other cast members include Jake Stormoen (Extinct), Andrew Howard (Hell On Wheels), Anand Desai-Barochia (Lake Mead), Robyn Malcolm (Hostiles) and Kristian Nairn (Game Of Thrones). The series was created by Kynan Griffin and Jason Faller. Dean Devlin and Jonathan Glassner serve as executive producers alongside Electric Entertainment’s Marc Roskin and Rachel Olschan-Wilson and Arrowstorm Entertainment’s Jason Faller and Kynan Griffin. Production gets underway today in Utah.
At SYFY UK, The Outpost joins a line-up of exclusive first run imports that includes the aforementioned The Librarians, Killjoys, Dimension 404, The Exorcist, 12 Monkeys and Midnight, Texas. “As the channel dedicated to science fiction, SYFY is the perfect home for this unique, fantasy/ adventure series,” added Steve Patscheck, Executive Vice-President of Global Programming for NBCUniversal International Networks. “We look forward to debuting The Outpost to SYFY fans across the globe as part of the brand’s continued commitment to building the ultimate community for passionate sci-fi fans.”
