Netflix UK Sets Premiere Date For ‘The Crown’ Season 2

The second season of royal drama The Crown will premiere on Netflix UK on Friday December 8th, it has been announced.

The Crown tells the inside story of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign, which each ten episode season covering a decade of her reign. The drama series, which is based on Peter Morgan’s play The Audience, is produced by Left Bank Pictures and stars Claire Foy, Matt Smith and Vanessa Kirby. Joining the cast for season two is Michael C. Hall as JFK and Anton Lesser as Prime Minister Harold Macmillan.

In the show’s ten episode second season bears witness to the end of the age of deference, and ushers in the revolutionary era of the 1960s. Beginning with soldiers in Her Majesty’s Armed Forces fighting an illegal war in Egypt, and ending with the downfall of her third Prime Minister, Harold Macmillan after a devastating scandal. Creator/writer Peter Morgan executive produces alongside director Stephen Daldry and Andy Harries. Netflix has not yet made a formal decision on a third season, despite the fact that the producers have previously stated that they plan to produce six seasons in total.
