Syfy UK Acquires NBC’s Supernatural Drama ‘Midnight, Texas’ From True Blood Author Charlaine Harris

NBC’s summer drama Midnight, Texas has found a UK home.

Syfy UK has acquired the exclusive UK broadcast rights to the supernatural drama series, which is based on the books by True Blood author Charlaine Harris, after striking a deal with sister company NBCUniversal International Distribution, TVWise has learned.

“As the ultimate science fiction fan, Syfy puts great storytelling at the heart of what we do”, said Chrystele Fremaux, Vice-President Programming, UK & Emerging Markets, NBCUniversal International Networks. ”Supernatural drama Midnight, Texas – with its community of vampires, witches, werewolves, psychics and other-worldly characters – is a perfect choice for Syfy viewers who come to us to Imagine Greater.”

Midnight, Texas is described as Twin Peaks meets True Blood. Set in a remote town where your neighbor could be a vampire, a witch, a werewolf, or even an angel; mystery, horror and romance combine to both enthrall and frighten any outsiders who decide to venture into this unusual place. The drama series is produced by Universal Television and stars François Arnaud, Dylan Bruce, Parisa Fitz-Henley, Arielle Kebbel, Jason Lewis, Peter Mensah, Sarah Ramos and Yul Vazquez. The executive producers are Monica Owusu-Breen and David Janollari.

The ten episode series, which is set to premiere in July, joins a healthy summer slate of exclusive acquisitions for Syfy UK. The NBCU backed genre channel also has the third season of Dark Matter, companion series After Dark and the third season of Killjoys on tap for their summer schedule. The channel’s senior execs are also waiting to hear if a number of their existing acquisitions, such as Sleepy Hollow and The Exorcist, will be renewed for next season ahead of the LA Screenings later this month.
