Sky Atlantic Orders ‘The Young Pope’ Follow Up ‘The New Pope’

Months after The Young Pope wrapped its run, Sky Atlantic is eyeing a return to the papacy. The satcaster is re-teaming with HBO for a limited series follow up to the Jude Law fronted series titled The New Pope.

As the title suggests, The New Pope will be following a new papacy and as such the original cast, including Jude Law, are not expected to reprise their roles. Casting for the role of the new pope and other key role is expected to begin shortly.

The Young Pope creator Paolo Sorrentino is penning the scripts for the limited series, which is set to enter production in Italy in late 2018, alongside Umberto Contarello. The Sky/HBO co-production is set up at Wildside and Mediapro, with Lorenzo Mieli and Mario Gianani serving as the producers. Notably, Canal+, who co-produced The Young Pope, are not involved at this stage. FremantleMedia International will handle global sales.

This is baffling… I don’t understand why they don’t just make another series of The Young Pope. It was so good.
