‘Emerald City’ Cancelled After One Season

Wizard Of Oz drama Emerald City, fronted by Vincent D’Onofrio (Marvel’s Daredevil), has been cancelled by NBC after a single ten episode season, TVWise has learned.

While it was envisioned as a “limited series”, producers had been hopeful of producing a second season. Though that was always considered somewhat unlikely due to the show’s middling ratings performance. This caps off a tumultuous history for Emerald, which was developed, cancelled and re-developed before landing a spot on NBC’s schedule.

The decision to cancel Emerald City will nevertheless be something off a blow for the show’s UK broadcaster Channel 5, who snapped up the show from NBCUniversal International Distribution last December for their digi-net 5Star. While it was something of a so-so performer state-side, Emerald City played well for 5Star; averaging a consolidated audience of around 400K viewers. A number of other cancellation and renewal decisions from the U.S. broadcast networks, that will impact various UK broadcasters, are expected within the next week.
