Discovery Channel UK has picked up the UK rights to Manhunt: UNABOMBER, the upcoming scripted drama series that was commissioned by, and is being produced for, the U.S. Discovery network, TVWise has learned.
Manhunt is an anthology series exploring various high profile manhunts conducted by the FBI. The first season, subtitled UNABOMBER, tells the story of the Bureau’s hunt for Ted Kaczynski, who terrified the United States with a letter bombing campaign in the 1980s and early 1990s. It follows FBI agent Jim “Fitz” Fitzgerald and explores how he deployed a radical approach to intelligence gathering to take down the so-called Unabomber.
The anthology drama, which was formerly known as Manifesto, was created by Andrew Sodroski and features an all-star cast that includes Sam Worthington as FBI Agent Fitzgerald, Paul Bettany as Kaczynski, Chris Noth as FBI official Don Ackerman and Jane Lynch as Attorney General Janet Reno. Manhunt is produced by Lionsgate Television, Discovery Channel and Trigger Street Productions. Greg Yaitanes is the director and showrunner.
This marks the first potentially long-running scripted drama series for Discovery, who are best known for their factual output. That said, this is not their first foray into scripted drama. The network previously tested the waters with gold rush drama Klondike, starring Game Of Thrones alum Richard Madden, which also aired on this side of the Atlantic on Discovery UK. Discovery Networks is also expected to air Manhunt across their global footprint.
