Supernatural drama series Beyond – which was recently acquired by Netflix UK – has been renewed by US network Freeform for a ten episode second season.
The announcement was made yesterday by Freeform President Tom Ascheim during the show’s panel at the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour.
Beyond tells the story Holden, a young man who wakes up from a coma after 12 years and discovers new abilities that propel him into the middle of a dangerous conspiracy. The drama series is produced by Imperative Entertainment and Automatik and stars Burkely Duffield, Romy Rosemont, Michael McGrady, Jonathan Whitesell, Dilan Gwyn and Jeff Pierre.
The ten episode series launched in it entirety on Netflix UK on January 3rd, after Freeform made the complete first season available on various online platforms in the United States some 24 hours earlier. Netflix UK does not release ratings data for either its original series or its exclusive acquisitions, but the show performed well for Freeform, amassing more than “14 million views”.
Elsewhere during the network’s turn at the TCAs, Freeform announced that they have picked up their drama pilot The Bold Type (formerly known as Issues), which tells the story of the outrageous lives and loves of those responsible for the global women’s magazine Scarlet, to series with a ten episode order. Additionally, the newtork has renewed family drama The Fosters (which does not yet have a UK home) for a fifth season.
