Netflix is getting into business with Manolo Caro. The streaming giant is teaming up with the acclaimed filmmake for an as-yet thirteen episode untitled dark comedy series, TVWise has learned.
The half-hour series follows a seemingly successful and idyllic family-run flower business full of dysfunctional secrets. One day, the patriarch finds out his longtime mistress has suddenly passed away and he decides to bring their children into the household alongside his current wife and family who didn’t know they existed.
“Manolo is the only filmmaker in Mexico to have been a part of the top ten highest grossing movies over the last three consecutive years. His exceptional talent will be reflected on the screen and we are sure he will delight thousands of Netflix members around the world,” said Erik Barmack, Netflix’s Vice-President of iInternational Originals. “The success of Club de Cuervos in Mexico and in other countries reaffirms our bet on Mexican talent and productions like the upcoming Ingobernable, and this new project with Manolo,” he concluded.
The untitled comedy, which is being produced by Rafa Ley and Stacy Perskie from Noc Noc Cinema, was devised by Caro and will be shot in 4K. Production is set to commence in in Mexico early 2017 for a premiere later in the year in all 190 territories where Netflix has a presence – including the United States and the UK.
“I really wanted to work with Netflix which comes along with great responsibility as it represents international exposure for the entire team”, added filmmaker Manolo Caro. “I am happy to take on this challenge as I will have the opportunity to enjoy the unconditional support and creative freedom needed to tell this great story”.
