Patrick Moran, who has been serving as Executive-Vice President at ABC Studios, has been upped to President at the studio. He will continue to report directly to Ben Sherwood, President of Disney|ABC Television Group.
This promotion is a reflection of Moran’s importance to ABC Studios and the fact that, even as EVP, he was heading the studio. Moran first joined in 2010 from 20th Century Fox Television and quickly rose through the ranks, ultimately being named EVP in 2013 and assuming full responsibility for ABC Studios.
“I am so proud to be a part of ABC Studios and to work with a truly amazing team of dedicated and talented individuals who share my passion for television” Moran said. “I’m honored that Ben has given me this vote of confidence and look forward to continuing to bring together amazing stories, creative talent and high-quality production in order to build ABC Studios into the world’s preeminent supplier of premium content.”
ABC Studios is one of the more active studios on the TV side and has some 28 series in production, for various platforms – across broadcast, cable and streaming – for the upcoming 2016-2017 season. Some of their better known productions include American Crime, How To Get Away With Murder, Scandal, Criminal Minds, Code Black, Grey’s Anatomy and Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders. They also works closely with Marvel Television on their slate of TV shows for ABC (Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Netflix (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage) and now Hulu (Marvel’s Runaways) and Freeform (Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger). The studio’s boutique division ABC Signature, which has a focus on output for cable and streaming platforms, was in fact launched by Moran in 2013.
“ABC Studios produces hundreds of hours of the highest quality original programming distributed across networks, streaming services and around the world. Under Patrick’s leadership, ABC Studios has grown as a beacon of creativity and excellence, developing award-winning and captivating content with loyal audiences everywhere”, said Ben Sherwood, Co-Chairman of Disney Media Networks and President of Disney|ABC Television Group. “As the demand for great content increases and viewer behavior evolves, Patrick’s savvy as a creative and business leader will help drive ABC Studios to even greater heights.”
