The Sinner, an hour-long crime drama starring Jessica Biel, has snagged a pilot order at USA Network.
It joins a pilot slate at the network that includes Tony Tost’s period drama Damnation and Skull and Bones drama The Tap, starring Colin Woodell (Masters Of Sex) and Erinn Westbrook (Glee).
Based on the novel by Petra Hammesfahr, The Sinner, tells the story a young mother (Biel) who, overcome by an inexplicable fit of rage, commits a startling and very public act of violence – and to her horror has no idea why. A rogue investigator finds himself obsessed with uncovering the woman’s buried motive, and together they travel a harrowing journey into the depths of her psyche and the violent secrets hidden in her past.
Assuming the project goes to series, this would mark Jessica Biel’s first regular TV role since exiting The WB/The CW series 7th Heaven in 2006. In addition to starring she will also executive produce. This adaptation is being penned by The Astronauts’ Wives Club scribe Derek Simonds and is set up at USA’s sister studio Universal Cable Productions. Antonio Campos is attached to direct. Simonds, Campos and Michelle Purple will also executive produce.
