StudioCanal and Sky Vision – the international distribution division of Sky – have sold diamond heist drama The Last Panthers to DirecTV Latin America, TVWise has learned.
“We’re thrilled to bring The Last Panthers exclusively to our subscribers”, said DirecTV’s Willard Tressel. “The producers have brought together an amazing team of talented people to create this gripping series that feels closer to cinema than to television.”
The Last Panthers opens with a daring diamond heist before quickly delving into the dark heart of Europe where a shadowy alliance of gangsters and ‘banksters’ now rules. The cast is being led by Tahar Rahim as Khalil, a French-Algerian policeman in pursuit of the thieves; Samantha Morton as Naomi, a British loss adjustor charged with recovering the stolen diamonds whatever the cost; and John Hurt as Tom, her nefarious boss.
Based on an idea by Jerome Pierrat and penned by Jack Thorne, The Last Panthers is a tri-lingual series, which has been filmed in English, French and Serbian, and is being co-produced by Haut et Court TV (The Returned) & Warp Films. It was commissioned by Sky Atlantic and Canal+ with Sundance TV. The executive producers are Peter Carlton, Caroline Benjo and Jimmy Desmarais; while Bates Motel helmer Johan Renck directed.
With this deal, StudioCanal and Sky Vision, who jointly control distribution, have sold the six-part series to 122 territories in total. In addition to airing on Sky Atlantic across UK, Ireland, Italy, Germany & Austria, Canal+ in France, and Sundance TV in the United States; The Last Panthers has also gone out on SBS Australia, HBO Nordics and across all Fox Networks Group Crime channels in Bulgaria, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Montenegro, Bosnia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Albania, Serbia, Croatia and Slovenia.
