Sony Pictures Television Networks has reached a deal with Virgin Media to launch their UK channels Pop, MovieMix and Movies4Men on the platform, TVWise has learned.
The three channels, which are coming to Virgin Media under a new long-term carriage agreement, will be available from August 25th and will launch alongside a wealth of catch-up and on-demand content from Sony’s kids channels Pop and Tiny Pop.
Pop is a kids channel targeted at four to nine year olds, which is home to such series as Power Rangers Dino Super Charge, Captain Flinn & The Pirate Dinosaurs, LEGO Friends and Littlest Pet Shop; while MovieMix and Movies4Men are film channel, with the latter having a decided male skew.
Sony now has seven channels on the Virgin Media platform here in the UK; with Pop, MovieMix and Movies4Men joining the likes of True Movies 1 (channel 424), Tiny Pop (channel 737), True Entertainment (channel 189) and Sony Channel (channel 193).
“We are delighted to be partnering with Virgin Media to bring these great additional Sony Channels to Virgin network audiences, whilst also offering the new catch-up on demand content for kids who love POP and Tiny Pop”, said Kate Marsh, Sony’s Executive Vice-President, Western Europe, International Networks. “This partnership shows our continued commitment to extending SPT’s channel portfolio reach, bringing a diverse variety of quality entertainment to UK homes.”
“We are building on our leadership in programming by giving our customers three great new Sony channels, offering movie blockbuster classics and fun cartoons for kids”, added Pete Chapman, Director, Subscription Services at Virgin TV. “Throughout this year we’ve been expanding our range of on demand programming, and the addition of Sony channels provides a new range of content we can offer customers. We are also excited to be releasing new catch-up on demand content for kids from POP and Tiny Pop and are excited about working with Sony on some new concepts.”
