FBI Special Agent Emily Prentiss is returning full-time to the BAU.
Paget Brewster, who previously signed on to reprise the role for a multi-episode arc, has been upped to fully fledged series regular status for the twelfth season of Criminal Minds in the wake of Thomas Gibson’s recent termination.
“We’re all so excited to have Paget with us full-time”. Criminal Minds showrunner and executive producer Erica Messer said in a statement. “The BAU family has definitely missed her, on screen and off. Having her back on set has been great, it’s like she never left.”
This is a homecoming for Brewster, who was a regular on the series’ second through seventh seasons. Her exit in 2012 was explained by having Prentiss take a job as the FBI’s Interpol representative, based in London. She recently made a guest appearance towards the end of season eleven, pursuing a serial killer, with the assistance of her former team, who was replicating the MO of more famous culprits. There is no word as to whether or not Prentiss will be replacing Gibson’s Aaron Hotchner as the BAU Unit Chief.
