Netflix has released the trailer and key art for their newest Marvel series Luke Cage, which is set to premiere globally on the streaming service on Friday September 30th.
Marvel’s Luke Cage follows the eponymous character, first introduced in Marvel’s Jessica Jones, who, after a sabotaged experiment leaves him with super strength and unbreakable skin, becomes a fugitive trying to rebuild his life in modern day Harlem, New York City. But he is soon pulled out of the shadows and must fight a battle for the heart of his city – forcing him to confront a past he had tried to bury.
Mike Colter, best known for his role on The Good Wife, reprises his role from Jessica Jones as Luke Cage. Other cast members include Mahershala Ali (House Of Cards) as Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes, Alfre Woodard (The Last Ship) as Mariah Dillard, Simone Missick (Wayward Pines) as Misty Knight, Theo Rossi (Sons Of Anarchy0 as Shades, Frank Whaley (Madoff) as Rafael Scarfe), Rosario Dawson (Marvel’s Daredevil) as Claire Temple and Sonia Braga (Royal Pains) as Claire Temple’s mother.
The 13 episode drama series is the third series to emanate from Netflix’s five series package with Marvel, following in the footsteps of both Marvel’s Daredevil and Marvel’s Jessica Jones and leading up to Marvel’s Iron First and team-up event series Marvel’s The Defenders. Luke Cage is produced by ABC Studios and Marvel Television. The executive producers are Jeph Loeb and showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker.
