Birds Of A Feather is returning to ITV.
The commercial broadcaster has ordered an hour-long Christmas Special to air this December, which will be set overseas – making it the first Birds Of A Feather to be set outside the UK in some twenty years.
Plot details for the special are being kept under wraps, but it has revealed that it will follow Sharon Theodopolopodos, Tracey Stubbs and Dorien Green as they emabrk on an adventure that takes them to sunnier places that they’ve never been to before, far from the comforts of Chigwell.
“Fans of the show have a real treat in store for them this Christmas”, said ITV’s Comedy Commissioning Editor Saskia Schuster, who ordered the hour-long Birds Of A Feather Christmas Special. “Travel can test the strongest of relationships, but when mayhem and mishap are thrown into the mix, how closely will our Birds of a Feather stick together?.”
Co-creators Laurence Marks and Maurice Gran will be penning the script for the special alongside regular Birds Of A Feather scribes Gary Lawson and John Phelps. Pauline Quirke, Linda Robson and Lesley Joseph will all reprise their iconic roles as Sharon, Tracey and Dorien, with further casting to be confirmed. Retort and QuirkyMedia Stuff are producing, with John Pocock on-board as the producer. Jon Rolph and Steve Sheen will executive produce.
Birds Of A Feather has been at the forefront of ITV’s push back into comedy and has been their most successful comedy commission in the past few years. Another of ITV’s original comedy commissions, the Gary Janetti created Vicious starring Ian McKellan and Derek Jacobi, will also be returning this December for a Christmas special. That special is also doubling as a series finale, however, after ITV confirmed earlier this year that they would not be commissioning a third season.
