UKTV Expands Commercial Department Under Simon Michaelides

UKTV is expanding their commercial department. The multi-channel broadcaster has promoted Simon Michaelides to the position of Chief Commercial Officer, a role that will see him lead an expanded commercial team for UKTV, TVWise has learned.

Michaelides will be now be responsible for UKTV’s commercial strategy and implementation, with accountability for all linear and non-linear pay TV platforms, UKTV’s Video on Demand business UKTV Play, international programme sales, new business development, and all external commercial relationships. He will report directly to UKTV CEO Darren Childs and will sit on the company’s executive board.

He will head up an expanded commercial team which will include Jill O’Brien, former Director of Digital for Ireland’s TV3 Group, who has been hired as Commercial Director. Emma Boston has been appointed as General Manager for VOD. while Meredith Coral’s role has been expanded to include international programme sales. Additionally UKTV is recruiting two new Heads of Distribution to serve under Michaelides.

Simon Michaelides first joined UKTV in 2012 as Marketing Director and in his time at the company he has been responsible for greatly increasing UKTV’s marketing capability and overseeing the development and launches of the Drama channel and UKTV Play brands. He also led his team on brand refreshes of Dave, Gold, Really and Alibi, and successfully brought the business’ creative services in house for the first time.

Simon Michaelidies promotion to Chief Commercial Officer comes shortly after UKTV announced that Director Of Communications Zoë Clapp would succeed him as head of marketing in the newly created role of Chief Marketing & Communications Officer. Both appointments are designed to strengthen the company’s executive team and enable UKTV to build on last year’s record breaking ratings and financials for many years to come.
