UKTV is expanding the remit of Communications Director Zoë Clapp. The commercial network, which is a joint venture between BBC Worldwide and Scripps Networks Interactive, has named Clapp Chief Marketing & Communications Officer, TVWise has learned.
Zoë Clapp has been with UKTV for more than a decade and was named Director of Communications back in 2012. In her time with the company, she has been responsible for leading the communications team and increasing the profile and awareness of UKTV in the press through a number of award winning campaigns; including numerous re-brands and the launches of Drama and Dave. UKTV also said that her strategic leadership helped grow the network’s viewership by 30% over 5 years.
As Chief Marketing and Communications Officer, Clapp will continue to lead the comms team while also assuming responsibility for UKTV’s Creative, Digital, Marketing and Media departments. She will oversee UKTV’s in-house high-tech production facility and agency relationships with Edelman, Joint, Mmmultiply and Rocket (Omnicom Media Group). She will continue to report to UKTV CEO Darren Childs and serve on the Executive board.
“Through her award-winning communications work for UKTV, Zoë shows superb strategic leadership and a drive for creative, future-facing marketing”, said Darren Childs, Chief Executive Officer of UKTV. “She’s the natural choice for this brand new role, created to strengthen UKTV’s position as a vibrant challenger in the UK market, and to ensure the company’s continued strong growth.”
The move to formally give the marketing brief to the veteran comms exec comes after UKTV posted record ratings and financial results for 2015 and after she has served as the Interim Director of Marketing and Communications since for the past four months. She succeeds Simon Michaelides, who has led UKTV’s marketing efforts since 2012 and was recently appointed as the Chief Commercial Officer for the multi-channel broadcaster.
“UKTV’s brilliant marketing and communications teams have made an enormous contribution to the network’s outstanding growth, and to the happiness of millions of our fans throughout the nation”, added Zoë Clapp. “It’s a privilege to lead this highly talented group as UKTV creates an exciting future for British digital television.”
