Showtime Sets Premiere Dates For ‘Shameless’, ‘Masters Of Sex’ & ‘The Affair’

ShamelessShowtime has set premiere dates for their new fall line up, which now consists of ShamelessMasters Of Sex and The Affair. The three series are getting staggered launches between September and November.

Shameless kicks off its seventh season on Sunday October 2nd at 9/8c, assuming the time-slot that has typically been reserved for new seasons of flagship drama HomelandMasters Of Sex‘s fourth season premieres a month earlier on Sunday September 11th at 10/9c; while the third season of the award winning The Affair will premiere on Sunday November 20th at 10/9c.

This kind of a staggered launch, rather than launching two or three series on the same night as has been the MO of premium cablers such as HBO and Showtime for years, is something that has been in the works for months. The strategy is the brain child of network President David Nevins, who is looking to use this new staggered release pattern to eventually ensure that there is a new series or season premiering every month on Showtime.

Masters Of SexShameless follows the daily lives of the members of the blue collar Gallagher family who live in the South Side of Chicago. The drama series stars William H. Macy, Emmy Rossum, Jeremy Allen White, Ethan Cutkosky, Shanola Hampton, Steve Howey, Emma Kenney, Cameron Monaghan and Isidora Goreshter. The show’s seventh season is poised to pick up from the season five finale, which saw the Gallaghers throwing their narcissistic dad Frank off a bridge into the Chicago River after he showed up high at Fiona’s wedding with a revelation that destroyed her happy ending.

Masters of Sex follows the real-life pioneers of the science of human sexuality, William Masters and Virginia Johnson. The drama series is produced by Sony Pictures Television and stars Michael Sheen, Lizzy Caplan, Caitlin Fitzgerald, Nicholas D’Agosto and Teddy Sears. The show’s twelve episode fourth season will begin in 1968, and will take viewers into the “swinging ‘70s” during which time our characters will take on new partners both professionally, personally and sexually.

The AffairThe Affair explores the emotional and psychological effects of an affair that destroyed two marriages, and the crime that brings these individuals back together. . The drama series was created by Sarah Treem & Hagai Levi Dominic and stars Dominic West (The Wire), Ruth Wilson (Luther), Maura Tierney (ER) and Joshua Jackson (Fringe). The new season, will pick up directly from last year’s finale which saw the mystery of who killed Scotty Lockhart solved when it was revealed that Helen was at the wheel of the hit-and-run that killed him on the night of Cole’s wedding. To save Helen, his ex-wife and the mother of his children, Noah confesses to the crime.
