Gilmore Girls is coming to Netflix.
The streaming giant has acquired global streaming rights to the original seven season run of the show after striking a deal with Warner Bros. International Television Distribution, TVWise has learned. All seven seasons of the show will be available to stream worldwide on Netflix from July 1st.
Gilmore Girls follows Lorelai Gilmore (Lauren Graham) and her daughter, Rory (Alexis Bledel). Lorelai owns the town’s bed-and-breakfast, the Dragonfly Inn, with best friend/chef Sookie (Melissa MAcCarthy), and contends with weekly dinners with eccentric, well-off parents Richard (Edward Herrmann) and Emily Gilmore (Emily Bishop). Amy Sherman-Palladino created the series, which hails from Warner Bros Television.
Netflix had been widely expected to take global streaming rights to the original series after they announced earlier this year that they had ordered a four episode revival, titled Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life. The revival, which is envisioned as a final season, will bring back original series stars Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel, Scott Patterson, Kelly Bishop, Melissa McCarthy, Matt Czuchry, Milo Ventimiglia, Sean Gunn and Keiko Agena. Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino penned the scripts and are directing the final four episodes.
