AMC Renews 'Preacher' For Second Season – TVWise

AMC has handed out a second season renewal to their comic book adaptation Preacher, TVWise has learned. The network has ordered 13 episodes for the show’s second season, up from the ten episodes they ordered for the show’s debut run.
Developed for television by Sam Catlin, Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg, Preacher tells the story of Jesse Custer, a conflicted Preacher in a small Texas town who merges with a creature that has escaped from heaven and develops the ability to make anyone do anything he says. Along with his ex-girlfriend, Tulip, and an Irish vampire named Cassidy, the three embark on a journey to literally find God.
The second season order comes about half-way into the show’s first season and after Preacher has drawn a sizeable audience for AMC. Season-to-date, the series ranks as the #2 new series on cable this year among adults 18-49 and adults 25-54 and is currently averaging 3.3 million viewers per episode, including 1.9 million adults 25-54, in Nielsen live+3 ratings.
“Preacher is a special television program and we’re eager to share with fans the rest of this wild first season and, now, an expanded second season,” said AMC President Charlie Collier. “What Sam, Seth, Evan and the entire creative team have achieved in bringing Garth Ennis’ graphic novel to the screen is extraordinary. We look forward to more time with these unforgettable characters be it in Heaven, Hell, Texas or beyond.”
Produced by AMC Studios and Sony Pictures Television, Preacher stars Dominic Cooper (Fleming), Ruth Negga (Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Joseph Gilgun (Misfits), Lucy Griffiths (True Blood) and Ian Colletti (Rake). The executive producers are Sam Caitlin, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Ken Levin, Jason Netter, Neal Moritz, Vivian Cannon and Ori Marmur. Amazon Prime Video holds first window rights to the series in the UK under the terms of a multi-year licensing deal they inked with Sony Pictures Television earlier this year.
