Death In Paradise S5The fifth season of BBC One’s drama series Death In Paradise will premiere on Thursday January 7th at 9pm, it has been announced.

Created by Robert Thorogood, Death In Paradise follows DI Humphrey Goodman and his local police team as they investigate crimes on the tropical island of Saint Marie. The series is produced Red Planet Pictures and stars Kris Marshall, Danny John-Jules, Don Warrington, Tobi Bakare and Josephine Jobert. Death In Paradise has been a hit for the BBC since its inception, pulling in an average consolidated audience of almost 9 million viewers.

In the opening episode of the show’s fifth season, Goodman and the team are left stumped when millionaire environmentalist and scientist Dan Hagen is shot on his boat while out at sea. The evidence seems to point to a robbery gone wrong, but with no other boats reported in the surrounding area, Goodman suspects foul play by one of Dan’s crew. But with the other four members of the group diving on the coral reef and in plain sight of one another at the time of the murder though, how could any of them have committed the crime?

Hmm, to me it looks like ‘Death in Paradise’ will become another just stock Detective show to fill the never ending need for the crime genre, the promise of the early Seasons quirky originality has been played out and even the sexual tension has been diluted without proper explanation, the writers obviously had some quick reimaging to do after Ben Miller decided to leave closely followed by Sara Martins (Camille) last season, which was very unfortunate.
