Fox is expanding their relationship with The Lego Movie‘s Phil Lord and Chris Miller.
The network has handed out a series order to Son Of Zorn, a live-action/animated hybrid comedy which originally landed at Fox back in June with a pilot presentation order and hails from Lord and Miller, who also serve as executive producers on Sunday night comedy The Last Man On Earth.
Son Of Zorn follows Zorn (voiced by Jason Sudeikis), a fully animated legendary warrior who, finds that reconnecting with his live-action son, Alan, and ex-wife, Edie, while suffering through a mundane office job and the banality of suburban life, is harder than waging actual war in his distant, mystical homeland of Zephyria. The voice cast also includes Cheryl Hines, Johnny Pemberton and Tim Meadows.
“This is utterly unique – there has literally never been a show like this. And, of course, it is very, very funny,” said David Madden, Fox’s President of Entertainment. “The fantastically talented duo of Phil Lord and Chris Miller are yet again delivering precedent-setting television. Jason Sudeikis makes his animated character sound and feel live-action, and Cheryl, Johnny and Tim have incredible chemistry with him that crosses formats, genres and galaxies.”
Son Of Zorn is set up at Fox’s sister studio 20th Century Fox Television, where Phil Lord and Chris Miller are under an overall deal. The pilot script was penned by Reed Agnew and Eli Jorne, The executive producers are Phil Lord, Chris Miller and Seth Cohen. Reed Agnew and Eli Jorne will also executive produce and serve as the showrunners. Eric Appel is director and co-executive producer. Son of Zorn will premiere next season.
