UKTV is further expanding the reach of UKTV Play, by launching the on-demand app on Amazon Fire TV and the Fire TV Stick, TVWise has learned. UKTV Play is now available as a free app in the Apps section of Amazon Fire.

Launched last year as the one-stop-shop for UKTV’s on-demand offerings, UKTV Play offers catch up and on-demand access to UKTV’s FTA channels Dave, Drama, Really and Yesterday. Alongside staff curated collections of content, the app on Amazon Fire includes a new feature which enables users to create their own collections via ‘My List’. The My List functionality will be rolled out on other platforms in the coming months.

With the launch on Amazon Fire TV, UKTV Play is now available on a fairly vast array of platforms. The on-demand hub can be accessed online at uktvplay.co.uk, as well as on iOS and Andorid devices,  YouView, Virgin TV and BT TV. Notably, the service had it most successful month in August, with TaskmasterSuits and The Last Man On Earth driving a 92% increased in VOD views for Dave.

“As UKTV Play passes its first birthday, this launch marks another exciting step in the growth of the service. UKTV continues to invest in its on demand services and in making brilliant, original programming, meaning our viewers can watch their favourite UKTV shows such as Dave Gorman Modern Life is Goodish and Taskmaster anytime, anywhere”, said UKTV CEO Darren Childs. “UKTV is attracting more viewers than ever before and now Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick users can also enjoy the extensive range of programming UKTV Play has to offer.”

“UKTV Play is another great addition to the Amazon Fire TV platform”, added Steve Rabuchin, Vice President of Amazon Appstore. “With Fire TV, we’re building a world-class open ecosystem that delivers access to the best catch up and on demand TV services, and UKTV Play will enable our customers to enjoy even more high quality and original British programming than ever before.”
