Fox’s surprise freshman hit is getting a full season. The network has handed out a back-nine order to Rosewood, which has outperformed The Grinder, Minority Report, Godfathered and Scream Queens to become the network’s highest rated new show of the season. With today’s pick up, Rosewood’s first season will now consist of 22 episodes.
Rosewood follows Dr Beaumont Rosewood Jr, the top private pathologist in all of Miami, whose eternal optimism frustrates the cynical female detective he often works with, but she can’t argue with the results that his unique perspective provides. The drama series is being produced 20th Century Fox Television and stars Morris Chestnut, Jaina Lee Ortiz, Gabrielle Dennis, Anna Konkle and Maggie Elizabeth Jones.
The full season order for Rosewood comes after Fox, noting the decent ratings performance of the Wednesday night drama, ordered three additional scripts. Season-to-date the series has been averaging a live+same day audience of 7.7 million viewers and a 2.2 A18-49 rating. When multiple platforms are factored in, such as streaming on Hulu and FOX NOW, Rosewood’s audience grows to some 9.1 million viewers.
“Rosewood has proven to be a real self-starter for us, which is a tremendous feat on this highly competitive night. Todd Harthan, Morris, Jaina, Lorraine and the entire cast and crew have done a fantastic job creating a gorgeous, sexy world that is the perfect complement to Empire,” said David Madden, President of Entertainment for Fox. “The upcoming episodes are so compelling as we build out the family dynamics, and with today’s order, we’re excited to explore the world of Rosewood even further this season.”
Rosewood is only the third new show to land a back-nine order this season, after NBC picked up a full season of breakout hit Blindspot, starring Jaimie Alexander and Sullivan Stapleton; and ABC ordered a full season (19 episodes) of FBI thriller Quantico. ABC comedy Fresh Off The Boat, now in its second season, has also been picked up for a full 22 episode season.
