E4 is moving forward with GameFace. The C4 owned digi-net has handed out a six episode series order to the comedy from rising star Roisin Conaty, TVWise has learned.
GameFace follows Marcella (Conaty) a character with a distinct comic voice and original world view, who despite being ever optimistic can’t quite get her life on track. In the series she tries to navigate the changing landscape of her 30s all the while reflecting the absurdity and inanity of modern life. Brendan Patricks (Downton Abbey), Felix Hayes (Friday Night Dinner), Ingrid Oliver (Watson & Oliver) and Mike Wozniak (Man Down) also star.
The comedy was originally piloted last year as part of Channel 4’s 4Funnies strand, which is used as a potential breeding ground for new series, with the pilot subsequently airing in April 2014 to solid reviews. GameFace follows in the footsteps of fellow 4Funnies projects Raised By Wolves and Scrotal Recall, which also went to series.
GameFace was created by Roisin Conaty, who will be penning the scripts for the six part series. Objective Productions are producing, with Charlotte Lewis serving as the series producer, while Layla Smith will executive produce. The full series was commissioned for E4 by Rachel Springett, Comedy Commissioning Editor for Channel 4.
“Roisin is a phenomenally talented writer and performer with a unique voice, and it’s been a real privilege to work with her since her 2010 Edinburgh Newcomer win, through from her original online Blaps, two acclaimed series of Man Down, and now her own much anticipated sitcom”, said Rachel Springett.
