Z Nation S2

The second season of Syfy’s zombie drama Z Nation will receive its UK premiere on the Sky owned Pick TV on Tuesday October 20th at 10pm, it has been announced.

Z Nation is set three years after the zombie virus gutted the country, and a team of everyday heroes must transport the only known survivor of the plague from New York to California, where the last functioning viral lab waits for his blood. Although the antibodies he carries are the world’s last, best hope for a vaccine, he hides a dark secret that threatens them all. With humankind’s survival at stake, the ragtag band embarks on a journey of survival across three thousand miles of rusted-out post-apocalyptic America.

The drama series was created by Syfy exec Craig Engler and Karl Schaefer, who is also serving as executive producer and showrunner. Z Nation is produced by Sharknado indie The Asylum and stars Harold Perrineau (Lost), Tom Everett Scott (Beauty And The Beast), DJ Qualls (Supernatural), Michael Welch (Twilight), Kellita Smith (The Bernie Mac Show), Anastasia Baranova (The Darkness II), Russell Hodgkinson (Big Fish) and Keith Allan (Rise of the Zombies).

The show’s 15 episode second season picks up mere moments after the nukes launch and it’s every man for him or herself when the team splits up and tries to outrun the impending blast. Meanwhile, in the Arctic, Citizen Z finds himself battling thawed zombies and unable to communicate with the team. In a desperate attempt to help them out on their quest to get to California and the CDC, Citizen Z issues an on air bounty for Murphy. Suddenly everyone wants a piece of “The Murphy,” including a mysterious and deadly bounty hunter, Vasquez (Matt Cedeño).

The Walking Dead has such a monopoly on zombie drama. It doesn’t seem like it’d make sense to pour money into another one unless the story is dramatically different and the whole “get VIP to safety” sounds very similar to what The Walking Dead has already done (albeit with the twist).
