CBS is back in the Kevin James business.
The network has handed out a 13 episode series production commitment to an as-yet untitled family comedy series starring the internationally recognisably comedian. The project brings Kevin James back to the CBS fold after he starred in King Of Queens from 1998 to 2007.
The CBS comedy series, which is expected to air during the 2016 – 2017 broadcast season, stars Kevin James as a newly retired police officer looking forward to spending more quality time with his wife and three kids. Before too long, however, des realises that he faces more challenges at home than he ever did on the streets.
In addition to starring, Kevin James is penning the scripts for the series alongside former Anger Management showrunner Bruce Helford and Rock Reuben. Sony Pictures Television, who produced King Of Queens for CBS back in the day, are producing, with Helford, Reuben, James and Jeff Sussman. Bruce Helford will also serve as the showrunner.
“We’re beyond thrilled to be back in business with Kevin James!”, said Glenn Geller, President of CBS Entertainment. “He’s an incredibly talented star on every screen and every stage, who appeals to a broad audience. We can’t wait to start working with Kevin and the amazing comedy talents of Bruce Helford and Rock Reuben on this exciting new project.”
“Kevin is part of our SPT comedy family and we have a rich and successful history together”, added Zack VanAmburg and Jamie Erlicht, Presidents of Programming and Production for Sony Pictures Television. “We are excited for everyone to see this next evolution of Kevin’s family sitcom life and join his fans in celebrating his return to series television.”
